Monday May 3, 2010
Music Monday is an annual event that brings together thousands of students, musicians, parents and community members across the country to celebrate the gift of music in our lives, on the same day at the same time. The Coalition for Music Education in Canada launched Music Monday in 2005. By 2009 Music Monday had over 700,000 participants from coast to coast. It has even inspired similar initiatives in the US, Australia, Britain and Hungary.
The goal is to celebrate the galvanizing power of music in Canada and demonstrate how that power is rooted in school music programs. The event is a platform to inspire public celebration, awareness and discussion every year. It is a tangible demonstration of how music programs shape young lives and the fun young people have in making music. Once again the country will unite around Serena Ryder’s wonderfully energetic song, “Sing Sing”.
Mark your calendars for May 3 and “lets fill the skies with music at the same time across the country.” For more details: Music Monday 2010
